Day 1

Arrival at Paro, Transfer to Thimphu

Morning

The flight into Bhutan takes you close to the great Himalayas, offering dazzling scenic views of some world’s highest glacial peaks. As you enter Paro valley, you will sweep past forested hills with the silvery Pa Chu (Paro river) meandering down the valley below. Paro Dzong (fortress) and Ta Dzong (watchtower) on the hills above the town will be a fine sight.

Paro Ta-Dzong Museum

Perched on top of a hill overlooking Paro Valley, the museum boasts a wide collection of treasures and artifacts reflecting Bhutan's mythical history.

Afternoon

We then transfer to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, passing through hills and some astounding countryside for 5 to 6 hrs.

Check-in at hotel, overnight at the hotel in Thimphu.

Day 2

Thimphu Sightseeing

Morning

Drive to visit Kuensel Phodrang to visit the Buddha Statue, 169ft, symbolizing indestructibility and one of the most religious monuments built in recent times. The view of Thimphu valley from the Kuenselphodrang is spectacular. We then visit the National Memorial Chorten: Built in honor of third King of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Elderly devotees flock throughout the day to circumambulate and turn the prayer wheels. Visit CSI market, a marketplace where you get all products made in Bhutan.

Buddha Dordenma

One of the largest Buddha statues in the world, the Buddha Dordenma is a majestic statue that overlooks the Thimphu Valley. It is a significant religious and cultural symbol, representing peace, happiness, and prosperity.

National Memorial Chorten

Built in memory of the third King of Bhutan, the National Memorial Chorten is a prominent landmark in Thimphu. It is a sacred site for prayer and meditation, attracting both locals and visitors alike

Afternoon

Drive to visit Takin Enclosure to see the National Animal of Bhutan. Visit the Art and Craft Institute, a vocational training Institute for students learning some of the 13 arts, preserving and producing skilled man power. After that Lunch at one of the local restaurant in Thimphu. Afternoon we visit the Royal Textile Museum “living art of Bhutan” which houses old Bhutanese Textiles and artifacts from the various regions and tribes of Bhutan. Take a short trip Tashicho Dzong, the fortress of glorious religion,” seat of the national government and the central monk body.

Royal Takin Preserve

The reason for declaring takin as a national animal of Bhutan on 25 November 2005 (Budorcas taxicolor) is attributed to a legend of the animal's creation in Bhutan in the 15th century by Lama Drukpa Kunley

National Institute for Zorig Chusum

A Vocational Training Institute for students learning some of the 13 arts

Tashichho Dzong

also known as Thimphu Dzong, is a Buddhist monastery and fortress located in Thimphu, Bhutan.

Day 3

Thimphu to Trongsa

Morning

Today, you will travel from the capital to Trongsa to visit historical sites and spiritual sanctuaries. Your journey includes a visit to a unique monument constructed over the years to appreciate the arts and architecture of Bhutan. On your way, visit Dochula Pass- The 108 Chortens were built by the present Queen Mother of Bhutan, Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck to commemorate Bhutan's victory over Indian militants and to liberate the souls of the souls lost.

Dochula Pass

Dochula Pass is one of the most breathtaking and memorable spots in all of Bhutan.

Afternoon

There is an abrupt change in vegetation at this point, with mountain forest replaced by high altitude dwarf bamboo. Stop en route at Chendbji Chorten, patterned on Kathmandu’s Swayambhunath Stupa, with eyes panted at four cardinal points. It was built in the 18th century by Lama Shida from Tibet, to cover the remains of an evil spirit that was subdued at this spot.

Arrive at Trongsa late afternoon and check into the lodge for the night.

Trongsa District

Strategically and historically significant district is the cultural border of western and central-eastern Bhutan.

Day 4

Trongsa to Bumthang

Morning

Visit Trongsa Dzong. Built in 1648 it was the seat of power over central and eastern Bhutan. Both the first and second Kings of Bhutan ruled the country from this ancient seat. All four Kings were invested as Trongsa Penlop (‘governor’) prior to ascending the throne, and the present Crown Prince now holds the post. The Dzong is a massive structure with many levels, sloping down the contours of the ridge on which it is built.

Trongsa Dzong

Trongsa Dzong is one of Bhutan’s most majestic and historically significant fortresses. Nestled on a ridge overlooking deep valleys, it offers breathtaking views and a rich spiritual atmosphere.

Afternoon

Then drive to Bumthang, 68 km from Trongsa, a journey of about 3 hours, over the Yutong-la pass (3,400m/ 11,155 ft). The road winds steeply up to the pass, 28 km from Trongsa, then runs down through coniferous forest into a wide, open cultivated valley known as the Chumey valley. On arrival in Bumthang, check in at your lodge. Overnight at the lodge in Bumthang.

Bumthang Valley

Bumthang, dubbed as "Historical Heart of Bhutan" consists of four valleys, Chummey, Choskor, Tang and Ura.

Day 5

Bumthang- Sightseeing

Morning

Bumthang is the general name given to combination of four valleys – Chumey, Choekhor, Tang and Ura with altitude varying from 2,600m to 4,000m. It is home to many of prominent Buddhist temples and monasteries. Visit to Kurje Lhakhang, where the saint Padmasambhava subdued a local demon and left his body imprint on a rock., the Jambey Lhakhang (7th century temple), Tamshing Lhakhang (housing some of the oldest wall paintings in Bhutan) and Jakar Dzong (administrative center of the region).

Kurje Lhakhang

There are three tamples at Kurjey Lhakhang. On the rock face where Guru Rinpoche meditated in the eighth century, the one on the right was constructed in 1652.

Jambey Lhakhang

The Tibeten King Srongtsen Gampo constructed this temple in the seventh century.

Jakar Dzong

Actually implies the castle of the white bird, constructed in 1549 bt the Tibetan Lama Nagi Wangchuk.

Afternoon

Stroll in the village, visit the little handicrafts shop at the entrance to the town, and perhaps take refreshments at a local restaurant. Overnight at the lodge in Bumthang.

Day 6

Bumthang to Punakha

Morning

explore further the fascinating valley of Bumthang. Then proceed to Punakha, stopping along the way at Trongsa for lunch, which would be served in local restaurant, famous for its cuisine.

Afternoon

Visit Wangduephodrang Dzong and town enroute to Punakha, which we will reach late afternoon. Overnight at the hotel in Punakha.

Wangdue Phodrang Dzong

PThis was dzong was very impressive looking. It is on the ridge of a large hill located at the confluence of two rivers.

Day 7

Punakha to Paro

Morning

Visit Punakha Dzong, a massive structure built at the junction of two rivers. Punakha was Bhutan’s capital until 1955, and Punakha Dzong still serves as the winter residence of the central monk body. Bhutan’s first King, Ugyen Wangchuck, was crowned here in 1907. The fortress has withstood several damages from fire, earthquake and flood over the centuries. The latest flood, in October, 1994, caused great damages to the fortress but miraculously spared its most holy statue. Also visit Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, the newly built stupa.

Punakha Dzong

Absolutely stunning! Punakha Dzong is a masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture, set at the meeting point of two rivers.

This is a nice hilltop temple near Punakha.

Afternoon

Drive to Paro en route visit Simtokha Dzong. This dzong, built in 1627 is the oldest in Bhutan. It now houses the Institute for Language and Culture Studies. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.

Day 8

Paro - Hike to Tiger's Nest (Taktsang)

Morning

After breakfast, embark on a morning drive from your hotel to the base of the iconic Tiger's Nest Monastery (Taktsang), one of Bhutan's most revered and breathtaking sites.

Tiger's Nest Monastery

This sacred monastery clings to a cliff 900 meters above the Paro valley. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche flew here on the back of a tigress in the 8th century.

Begin your hike to Tiger's Nest, a challenging yet rewarding trek that takes you through pine forests and along rocky paths. Along the way, marvel at panoramic views of the Paro valley below and the surrounding Himalayan mountains.

Afternoon

Experience the spiritual ambiance of Tiger's Nest as you explore its ancient temples and sacred shrines. Enjoy a packed lunch amidst the natural beauty surrounding Tiger's Nest, replenishing your energy for the descent.

Descend back to the base of Tiger's Nest, taking in the serene atmosphere and natural beauty of the surroundings. Return to Paro town by late afternoon, feeling accomplished and spiritually enriched.

Indulge in a delicious dinner at a local restaurant in Paro, savoring the flavors of Bhutanese cuisine. Return to your hotel in Paro for a well-deserved rest, reflecting on the day's memorable experiences.

Is the Tiger's Nest hike difficult?
