TIGER'S NEST MONASTERY (PARO TAKTSANG)

The Tiger's Nest Monastery is a very special place hanging high on a cliff, above a beautiful forest with blue pine trees and colorful rhododendrons. It's a very tough climb up the hill (about 900 meters), so you can ride a pony to help you. On the way up, you'll pass a chapel with butter lamps and reach a waterfall near the Snow Lion Cave. The view of the Paro valley from there is amazing, and the whole place feels very holy. It's a place that every Bhutanese person dreams of visiting at least once. This is where Guru Rinpoche, a very important Buddhist figure, brought Buddhism to Bhutan. Legend says he arrived riding on the back of a tigress.

THE BUDDHA DORDENMA STATUE

The Buddha Dordenma Statue is a big, peaceful statue of Buddha in Thimphu, Bhutan. It's 169 feet tall and sits beautifully in nature. This place is not just a big statue; it's also a special place for people to come together for religious events. Every year, there are big prayer festivals called Moenlam Chenmo. People from all over Bhutan come to these festivals to pray, get blessings, and learn more about Buddhism.

PUNAKHA DZONG

The Punakha Dzong is a very beautiful and important dzong in Bhutan. It's the second oldest and second biggest in the country, and some people call it the "Palace of Great Happiness." You can drive to Punakha from the capital city, Thimphu, in about 3 hours. When you first see it, it's a truly amazing sight. The dzong is built between two rivers, the Pho Chu and Mo Chu, which have different colors of water. Punakha has a nice, warm climate. During the spring, beautiful purple jacaranda trees bloom around the fort.

GANGTEY VALLEY

The Gangtey Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Himalayas. Many people call it the "Shangri-La of Bhutan," just like how Bhutan itself is often called "the last Shangri-La on Earth." This trek takes you through villages, meadows, and forests with different kinds of trees like juniper, magnolia, and rhododendrons (which bloom beautifully in April). You can also visit the Gangtey Monastery and learn about the Black-necked Crane at the information center. If you visit during the winter, you might be lucky enough to see these beautiful cranes flying around.

DUCHULA PASS

The Dochula Pass is a special place in Bhutan. It was built to remember a brave 4th king Jigme Singye Wangchuck and his soldiers. They fought against enemies in 2003 and won. Her Majestry Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck wanted to honor them, so Ashi built 108 special structures called chortens. The pass is high up in the mountains, with beautiful snowy views.

Chimi Lhakhang (The Fertility Temple)

Chhimi Lhakhang is a temple on a small hill. You can walk there in about 15 minutes through beautiful green rice fields. This temple is special because it helps couples who can't have children. Many people say that after visiting, they miraculously had babies. The story goes that a long time ago, a powerful monk named Lam Drukpa Kuenley fought and defeated an evil spirit. He trapped the spirit under the hill and built a black tower (stupa) on top, saying "chi-med" which means "no dog." Even though he defeated the spirit, Lam Drukpa Kuenley changed it into a protector of the temple. He gave the spirit a new name, Chhoekim, meaning "the one who has found religion." Now, Chhoekim is the powerful guardian of Chimi Lhakhang.
